Kellen McKillop

Editor. Copywriter. Content Marketer.

Having started my career as a content marketing intern, I quickly developed a passion for creating content that served a business purpose while sparking interest in a brand from customers and users. 

​

I pivoted in my career but a solid thread followed: creative married with data results in success. ​

​

Whether collaborating with creative partners on photoshoots or creating a detailed email marketing strategy, I always deliver on content that serves key KPIs.

​

Background:

I grew up in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. I spent my high school years combining Pyschology classes with English and Art classes. Though the interest in pyschology remained, I went on to nuture the writing portion of my skillset as a Creative Writing Major at the University of Redlands. 

​

Career:

In 2013, I got an internship as the Editorial and Social Media Assistant at a company called AfterCollege. There, I pitched + wrote editorial blog posts and social media copy to help recent graduates in their job search. I was mentored by the Content Marketing Manager. 

​

I went on to run the editorial blog as the Associate Editor at the modern furniture start-up Dot & Bo. There, I also wrote the website copy for each of the furniture collections we launched and the subject lines for each of our emails. 

​

Wanting to try something new, I entered the field of public relations. Storytelling was just as essential (if not more so) in this role. I honed my skills of mastering eye-catching headlines and captivating pitches during my time as a PR Associate

​

I transitioned to Walmart eCommerce as an Editorial Manager—with a focus on Home products. There, I wrote buying guides to help customers navigate our extensive assortment and complete the purchase journey with ease. In doing so, I discovered my love of a user-centric approach to copy and design. I completed a UX course with General Assembly and am applying the acquired skills to my work at Walmart. 

 

Interested in learning more about customer personas and mindsets, I have since leaned into marketing as an eCommerce Marketing Manager where I work to provide promotional and inspirational materials to target customers, partner with lifecycle partners to drive customer journeys and retention, brief internal and external partners to deliver storytelling that hits our key goals, and collaborate with analytics to assess performance and optimize based on that data.  

​

Personal interests:

In my free time I'm interested in preventative medicine, holistic health practices, and sustainability. I volunteer for a nonprofit focused on encouraging travelers to use more eco-friendly tourism businesses by owning their email newsletter content calendar.
